Are you frustrated with your guitar playing?
  • Are you bored playing the same things over and over?
  • Are you worried you don't have the 'natural talent' to play the guitar?
  • Do you feel like other musicians get better faster than you do?
  • Are you just beginning and aren't sure what to do next?
  • Are you concerned your current teacher isn't giving you the best possible tuition?
I was once frustrated learning to play guitar too.

I have spent hours online looking at tabs, reading articles, watching youtube videos, jamming with other players, and in that time spent an awful lot of money on some very good and some very bad instructional DVDs and books. I had a teacher but I felt like I wasn't getting very much out of the lessons, but I didn't know if there were any better teachers out there.

I didn't understand why nothing was helping me improve. I had friends around me who were way better than me at playing guitar. I worked really hard to get better, but I found out later that the things I was working on all the wrong things, in all the wrong order.

“I’ve improved greater in the last nine months than I have in the last nine years”
-Chris Duffy, Lead Guitar Student

Why should you choose Galway Guitar Lessons?

1.You will be taught what to learn when you’re ready to learn it.

The problem with learning from the internet or friends is that they don’t know what you can or can't do. This can lead to you being taught things that are way too advanced or way too simple for you.
I'm sure if you've tried this method you've had the experience of trying to learn a few chord
s or a song and the person teaching you has said

"And then you just do this and thats it! Have a great day guys!"

Meanwhile, your pressing play again on that youtube video. Don't waste your time on these methods. They work some of the time, when and if you're lucky enough to find a video at your level.

2. You will learn faster and it's going to be easy.

Have you ever had a brilliant teacher? One who made the subject you were learning fun and interesting, who could take a subject you found daunting and make it fun and interesting, presenting it in such a way that everything made sense and was easy to understand?
I’ve been lucky enough to have a teacher like that and that’s the kind of teacher I always try to be. I want to take learning the guitar and make it easy and fun for you.

3. You will be encouraged to start playing with other musicians.

If you play guitar or want to play guitar you probably want to play either with other people or for other people. Think of what got you into guitar in the first place. 99% of the time, it was watching a guitarist play and your jaw dropped.

Playing with other musicians can be a humbling experience (I once discovered I had no timing halfway through a sweet child of mine performance at the gaeltacht)

After that particular experience, I was pretty humiliated. Discovering you're not very good at playing guitar in front of 300 people is not an experience I would recommend! BUT...

...it can also be an experience that can improve your playing tenfold. It improves your rhythm, your strength, your knowledge of the song, you’ll be highly motivated to have it rehearsed because if you don’t, when you go to play it with other musicians, you're going to suck!
I will always try to have you play music with either myself (we’ll make a great team) or my other students. Playing with other musicians is a fantastic experience, so I aim to give you that experience in a safe, secure environment with others of a similar level to you. "You’ve made learning the guitar really enjoyable for me"

- Aoife Martin, Beginner Guitar Student

So why are you still struggling to play guitar?

It's probably not that you haven't tried
It's probably not that you haven't put the time in
It's not that you "don't have the talent to play guitar"

You simply don't know the easiest way to learn guitar, and haven't had someone to pull you out of the mud when you get stuck

But what if you were able to work with a guitar teacher who has helped other people through these problems before? Someone who could prove that they have done this before with other students and got them playing? (Meet my students!)

There are a lot of average teachers out there, and here's a list of what I do differently to ensure you get the best possible guitar lessons.

What You Can Expect From a Normal Guitar Teacher

What You Can Expect From Me

·         What’s different about your soloing lessons?

Other guitar teachers may not even have specialised programmes specifically made for you solo.

A free evaluation lesson where you can come in and we can discuss what you can do now and what you would like to be able to do. From there we can create a plan to get you where you want to go.

·         How will you develop a plan for me to make sure that I can be playing the way I want to in the shortest possible time and the minimum amount of frustration?

Normal guitar teachers do not normally have a long term plan for you and often teach from lesson to lesson with no effective long term strategy to help you.

From the evaluation lesson we will agree on what you want to get out of the lessons. From there we will work out yourshort term and long term goals and work towards those goals.

·

·         How will you help me to overcome the problems I have with my playing?

Most normal guitar teachers are not concerned with this and only teach their students songs without focusing on the core issues that are holding their playing back.

From the very first lesson I will be looking for any problems in your playing. From there I can show you what’s gone wrong and how to correct it. I will also make a note of that problem and add it to your list of goals.

·         How will you record my progress?

Most guitar teachers do not record their student’s progress and some even forget what they have taught from lesson to lesson.

I will keep a file on your progress and make notes each week to ensure we are on the right track for your goals

·         Is there any support for me outside of lessons?

No. The help stops when the lesson ends.

There are many additional benefits to taking lessons from me. I provide my students with additional learning resources on the student area of my website including a massive library of backing tracks. In addition I run masterclasses and jam sessions that are free or at a heavily discounted price for my students so you have many other opportunities to learn in addition to the lessons you take with me.

·         How will you help me to practice effectively and make the most of my time between lessons?

Most teachers don’t bother with any of this but some may give you some tips on what to do with your practice.

First, you will have a personal account on my website where your lesson materials are stored, so you can review them whenever you need to. In addition every single week you will get a detailed practice schedule from me, which lists what you need to practice, for how long and to what standard you need to get to. Nothing is left for you to guess or wonder about.

·         How can you prove that you can get results for your students?

Most teachers can’t prove this.
